Drs. Thy Huynh and Vinayak Nahar continue to work to grow our research enterprise and support our three-part mission of health care, research, and education. Since the Fall of 2022, Dr. Huynh has activated an Ichthyosis clinical trial that is currently enrolling patients as well as a Bullous Pemphigoid clinical trial that will begin enrollment in the early spring. Discussions to conduct future trials on skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, scleroderma and hidradenitis suppurativa are in process.
In addition, Drs. Robert Brodell and Vinayak Nahar’s Pfizer-funded grant to address disparities in psychological health and help-seeking in Alopecia Areata patients in Mississippi's underserved communities continues to enroll participants. Dr. Nahar also has a second Pfizer award to develop, implement, and evaluate a telemedicine and face-to-face educational intervention to improve health care professionals' understanding of behavioral approaches and new and emerging therapies for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in children.
Finally, Project ECHO, led by Drs. Chelsea Mockbee and Stephen Helms, has received another year of funding from the UMMC Telehealth Center of Excellence’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant. So far in 2023, the ECHO project has presented 8 cases to 107 participants. The team has been invited to present a poster at the MetaECHO 2023 Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, September 18-21, 2023.
